Hello

I´m about to buy a 3060 and i´m wondering if it will bottleneck the i5 too much

Mainly for 1080p 60 fps , would it be good or should i get a 2060?

PC : I5 9400F , GTX 1060 6GB , 16GB RAM , 500W PSU

Thanks

Ideally you would want a 6 core/12 thread, can I ask what games you want to play? You will probably need a new PSU for the 3060.
Tbh not anything absurd like rtx , 144 fps and stuff
Most 1080p 60 fps .
Like mw 2019 , warzone , elden ring , mostly latest relases at 1080 60

I´m not having trouble with my 1060 , i´m getting just for longevity

You would benefit from a 3060 even with a 9400F, something like Red Dead 2 or Assassins Creed Valhalla will run much better, but there will be times when you'd run into a CPU bottleneck.

If your not having trouble with your 1060, then I would expect a 4060 to land in January. That would probably last you through this build and a future CPU/motherboard upgrade. In terms of which I'd pick between the 3060 and 2060 though, I would still go with the 3060.

I´m somehow afraid that it will actually perform worse than my 1060 due to higher cpu usage overall

Do you think it is doable to get a 3060 with this processor now?

Do you think i could run into bottlenecks often?

I somehow think warzone could bottleneck

I upgraded from a 1060 to a 3080, I used it with a 6700K for 6 months while I was waiting for new CPU's to become available. I was only playing at 60 FPS, it never performed worse than my 1060. It was really Cyberpunk at 60hz where the CPU couldn't cope.

The 9400F can do most games at 60hz just fine, it's only some newer ones where your likely to find the CPU at it's limit.

I don't play Warzone because I'm useless at it so I can't really say how that will be affected. If you were to run with unlocked frame rates then you are far more likely to run into stuttering in more demanding games than with the frame rate capped at 60.

As others mention already you will never have a worst experience with a faster GPU.

Will your current CPU limit the performance of the RTX 3060?, probably, in some games will. But if you are only aiming at 60Hz your i5 9400 should be able to deliver enough performance to the GPU to hit that mark in most games.
Regardless of the CPU, the new GPU will allow you to enable more eye candy effects.

Remember that for the RTX 3060/4060 you want a well branded PSU with enough wattage. So be carefull there.
