Would their be any frame rate disadvantages from buying a used ps4 that’s been in use since launch day compared to buying a new one?

Solution
PS4's shut down if they reach a certain temperature but they don't throttle or at least that seems to be the consensus on the internet from what I can gather.

Edit - I could be wrong, if I am I stand corrected

Theres always some sort of throttle happening to keep it within a desired temperature, wether its the type of throttle that they tell us about or not, up for debate.

But you cant just let a piece of hardware keep running full blast for hours on end if the temps are getting too high. Yes its designed to shut down if temps get too high, but the temps would ALWAYS get too high if there wasnt some sort or form of throttling happening. And the system would CONSTANTLY be shutting down.

The performance will NOT be the same if...
When you say new do you mean the slim version? They stopped producing the "original" version sometime ago

The slim version has the same specs from what I can gather, however some say its quieter and its more compact. I wouldn't be surprised if it also has various improvements to things like cooling and longevity

But if you're comparing two "original model" consoles to one another, one used and one brand new, I don't see why there would be differences in game performance

Lifespan wise the new one is going to likely last longer but they should perform similarly

So basically the parts will work properly or not at all?

It depends on how well the device was taken care of.

Consoles, gaming PC's have the ability to outlive the lifespan of how long you will even use it. But we suck at taking care of them and cleaning them which leads to HEAT. HEAT is what dictates the lifespan of a console/gaming pc. HEAT also dictates how well those parts run (the cpu/gpu) . SO if the console is full of dust, or wasnt cleaned regularly (taken apart, fan blades cleaned, rubbing alcohol used) it will likely run hotter, and louder, and this will absolutely affect performance.

A new console wouldnt have this built up dirt/dust so in turn yes, it would perform better and last longer.

Your question can depend on all of these factors when put into the terms of "will it perform the same" most likely, no, it will not. Unless they cleaned it out regularly or at least, it gets cleaned properly before you use it.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I thought PS4's don't throttle speed based off heat. Unless they changed it with the newer models or did a update

When you say that it will run worse from heat do you mean thermal throttling?

The performance will NOT be the same if the system has built up dirt, its a fact.
