Question Would a Ryzen 5 3600 be enough for gaming at 1080p 144fps+ and streaming at 1080 60fps at the same time?

This is my first PC build. It is around 1k.

I want to play Halo: The Master Chief Collection at 1080p 144fps+ as my monitor is 1080p 144hz while at the same time streaming the gameplay to Streamlabs OBS at 1080p 60fps.

My friend suggested I get the 2700x as it has 8 cores and I can dedicate 4 cores to gaming and 4 to streaming.

I have 2 stick of 2 x 8 GBs DDR4 RAM which is 3600mhz. People on the forum said the 2700x will struggle with it so I am thinking of upgrading my CPU to the Ryzen 5 3600.

But will this be powerful enough?

Along with this, in a couple of years, I will be looking to upgrade it to a Ryzen 7 3700x.

This is my current build with the 2700x: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/mLhNyk

If the 6 cores will be able to handle streaming and gaming at the resolution and framerates that I would like, I will change the CPU.

Any advice is also greatly appreciated.

Hey, R5 3600 should be more than enough, remember it has SMT as well meaning 12 threads, the more important aspect would be GPU, GTX 1070 or 2060 should do the trick or if you're into AMD maybe the new RX5500, as a reference when gaming on my system on 1080p with medium to high my gpu usage nears 100% but cpu rarely exceeds 20% also i have locked my clock multiplier to base of 3600mhz meaning no boost

I only went AMD because my friend said they come out the box at 40 - 50% clock speed so I can overclock them more than intel.

I think your friend is a bit misinformed, buying a retail chip that has not been pre tested and OC'd is a gamble in terms or overclocking potential, silicon lottery. R5 3600 base is at 3.6 ghz and boosts to 4.2ghz when thermals are acceptable, without serious cooling you aren't going to OC much, furthest i pushed mine was 4ghz all cores, but there really isn't a need for overclocking in my opinion, the actual gains aren't worth it. its more of a hobby in my opinion. you'd be safer getting a more powerful chip with higher base clock and boost

I tend to think a 3600 would probably be a bit dicey with that kind of work. I think more cores would be better since you're streaming too, and at HD resolution. This is something that will need more cores and hardware threads, and 8/16 is a big 33% improvement on 6/12.

I think a 3700X is the only way to do that comfortably but a 2700x might get you through. Like Lushern says, counting on overclocking is not wise for any 3000 CPU since the boost algorithm pretty much gets it all for you anyway. While many people do manage to get some good gains out of 2700X CPU's it is still the silicon lottery so nothing to bank on there.

Lol liqmax 360 liquid coolers are only 100 right now so that has great price to performance,
