Would a ssd for a laptop work on a pc?

I accidentally ordered a ssd for a laptop to put in my pc. Would that still work.

Most cases need a 2.5"" to 3.5" adapter
Some mini itx cases and new cases have a space for 2.5" drive

I use a SSD myself. They all seem to be 2.5". To fit the 3.5" format they need a mounting bracket. You can use a purchased one or rig your own. I use 2 medium/large rubber bands and 2 unsharpened #2 lead pencils to mount mine. It works well.

As far as I know, ALL SSDs are laptop size, i.e., they are 2.5" drives, versus the 3.5" desktop hard drives. For my first SSD in my desktop I did not have a 3.5" to 2.5" adapter, so I just screwed in one of the screw holes into my case. It worked well because there is no vibration with SSDs since there are no moving parts. Later, with my second SSD, I also got an adapter bracket for it.

It's not just for laptops. Which vendor are you buying from that lists it as such?

I checked it out on their web site. There's nothing proprietary about it. It will work in any desktop or laptop with a standard sata data and power connection.

I believe that Samsung offers a "Laptop Kit" that comes with a SATA to USB cable for cloning a laptop drive to the new SSD. There may be some other extras also. The SSD in the kit is the same 840 Evo 2.5" drive.

Some "for Laptops" models specify they come with the migration kit. On the Best Buy web site, each that I saw was very overpriced compared to those that did not specify the inclusion of a migration kit.

Concerning those that come with the kit, I've used the same kit in the past to clone desktop drives. It will work for either desktop or laptop.

Whether the migration kit is included or not, the drive will work on a desktop PC as well as a laptop PC.
