Would adding a WAP cause loss of internet connectivity?

Just last week I had installed a wireless access point in my house to extend my wifi to areas that were previously weak or inaccessible. This is now how I have my home network setup. Internet provided via Comcast comes through Motorola SB-5120 modem. Modem connects via ethernet to internet port of Linksys WRT310N router. Main desktop PC is connected to one Ethernet port of the router. A TP-Link TL-WA801ND Wireless Access Point is connected to another port via Ethernet cable. Prior to installing the WAP I very rarely had internet connection issues. However, since the moment I had installed the WAP I seem to be losing connection on a daily basis. I have to do the ipconfig/release ipconfig/renew thing to get the connection going again.

Make short test - disconnect the AP from the LAN port of the router, what happens with your desktop connection?
You should also configure the AP with static IP address (preferably outside DHCP pool of the router).
