either the 9600 model or the 7600. gpu is a gtx 950.Are you getting a GPU?
A8 covers a few generations of APU, so hard to say without knowing which one. 3rd Gen i5 isn't terrible, but I would question its cost effectiveness over something newer.
The i5-9600 is about twice as strong as the A8-7600:either the 9600 model or the 7600. gpu is a gtx 950.
I believe he was referring to the A8-9600The i5-9600 is about twice as strong as the A8-7600:

It would be helpful if the OP supplied links to the processors he is considering,I believe he was referring to the A8-9600
Alr, to answer all your questionsWhat is your budget, and what all do you need to buy?
You will be disappointed if you play modern games. Also, if I were to go the am4 route, would the Ryzen 3 1200 be a bad option?
This has been answered in this thread already. Neither is going to be satisfying playing current games.Alr getting back to my original question, will the amd a8 9600 be a good start for a budget eSports machine with a rx 560/ GTX 960, or am I better off with a 3rd gen i5 (or really anything else)?
Like valorant? This has been answered in this thread already. Neither is going to be satisfying playing current games.
You would be better served saving your money for a much more modern and capable build.
Yes. Pretty much all modern AAA games are too demanding for the relics you are asking about.Like valorant?
You realize valorant isn't a triple a title right? I ran it on my old school laptop and easily got 40-50 fps.Yes. Pretty much all modern AAA games are too demanding for the relics you are asking about.
Really no reason to spend money for those components if playing current games.
