Would an antivirus counteract lack of Windows security updates in the future?

Would using a good antivirus like Kaspersky or Avast be enough to ensure safety when Windows security updates stop in Windows 7 (or any other version, for that matter)?
Thanks in advance.

A top-notch AV plus a top-notch third-party firewall would. I've never allowed Windows Updates anywhere near my Windows 7 since I installed it 6 years ago but I've never been hit with any infection & never been hacked.

Same applies to all 3 computers in my house.

I don't regard Kaspersky as a top-notch AV by the way.

I've always used Comodo AV & Firewall.
