Would an SSD upgrade make my Compaq CQ56 (with 2.3GHz single core AMD V series V140) faster then a CPU upgrade to Dual Core?

Would an SSD upgrade make my Compaq CQ56 (with 2.3GHz single core AMD V series V140) faster then a CPU upgrade to Dual Core?

Here are the important specs of my Compaq Presario CQ56-129NR laptop.

Processor AMD V series V140 / 2.3 GHz
Memory 2.0 GB / 8.0 GB (max)
Hard Drive 320.0 GB - Serial ATA-300 - 5400.0 rpm

I know that I can upgrade the CPU to an AMD Phenom II Quad-Core N970 2.2Ghz (for $60 to $70), but I am curious if an SSD upgrade for about the same money would make my laptop run just as fast as the Quad Core CPU upgrade?

Please suggest a good SSD upgrade that I can get for around $60 (if it would be as good as a CPU upgrade).

An ssd will make loading programs faster, but will not provide a great deal of difference in actual use. Upgrading your processor is a non-starter - it is soldered to the motherboard.

I have upgraded many laptop processors in the past, and I never had the problem of the CPU being soldiered on to the motherboard. I read that most motherboards that were made in the last 6 years (I guess since maybe 2007) do not have soldiered on processors. I know that there are some that are soldiered, but most are not. Are you positive that the CQ56 motherboard has a soldiered on CPU? Thanks.

I stand corrected - the cpu is not soldered. I still don't think an ssd will give you any significant difference other than boot times and benchmarks.

IMO a processor upgrade would be better.

Okay, thanks. The reason I asked is because I would need to completely take the laptop apart in order to get to the CPU. Compaq did not design the case in a way to easily get to the heatsink, fan, and CPU (for an upgrade). I wish that Compaq would have designed the case to completely open from the bottom (like some Dell, and Sony laptops that I have had do), so that the laptop would not need to be completely taken apart. I like to multitask a lot, and the single core AMD CPU does not allow me to do that. So an SSD upgrade does not help in online multitasking? It only helps programs open faster? Thanks.

An ssd is just a faster access hdd. Multitasking is cpu and memory dependent.

Actually, you CAN upgrade your processor; It's not soldered to the motherboard because I've switched mine (I have the same exact laptop) out for a dual core 3.0GHz processor and it's working just fine. Sorry to disprove anyone, but after seeing this, it just compelled me to reply.

my intel i5-2500k 4.2ghz is very quick but it got bogged down by a slow hard drive - switched to ssd and bang everything is running quicker.. the quicker the cpu can get the information of disk the quicker it can process it - ssd means faster computer
