Would building a system be cheaper if there was no cryptocurrency mining?

I was wondering about this issue. The prices of components seem very expensive.

No. Biggest price issue at moment is SSD price due to mobile deivces - tablets phones etc eating up all the chips.
RAM has skyrocketed too. not sure the cause. I recently sold 7+year old DDR3 RAM for more than half price of oriignal purchase.

Some crypto mining utlizes GPUs but i bet wed see the current prices regardless.
