Would buying a second hand CPU be a good idea?

I found a really great looking deal on ebay. Somebody is selling a Dell Inspiron i5348 all-in-one computer that has the screen broken. The thing is, it includes an i7-4770 processor, and some other nice parts. The seller says everything works, except the screen. As far as I know all-in-one cpu's are no different than normal ones, right? And which one would be better for streaming, editing, gaming, and recording, the i7-4770 or i5-4690K I have already bought a Z97 mobo, but if I would see better performance I would go with the non K processor. Thanks!

The difference between high and low CPU's importance will depend on the game or application. Check this benchmarks to have an idea on the performance increase you will have from increasing the CPU speed:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/836?vs=1260 (this one shows that for gaming speed is not the most important factor)

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2014/07/03/intel-core-i5-4690k-review/5 (this shows you some gains you can have at gaming, but normally only when CPU is bottlenecking the GPU you will big gains in gaming performance by overclocking the CPU)

If the Dell is cheaper than an i7, you should buy it. I also use a 2nd hand CPU and without any problems (could even get two extra cores to work without problems)
Do you already have the i5? How much it will cost you the dell computer?

The i7 is better, specially for editing and multitasking.

If you have the i5 you can always sell it (you can get good prices at ebay by sending the processor worldwide). You could probably sell if for more than 200$. For example, for my country the cheapest i5-4690k is 247$ + 48$ for shipping.

I have not already bought the I5.I already bought a Z97 mobo, but as far as I know the two should be compatible, right? And the clock speed, the I7 is at 3.4ghz, but the i5 can be overclocked to 4ghz or more. Will this make that big of a difference?

For $30 (thought it could go higher in bidding) I think I will go with the I7. I just wanted to make sure everything would be compatible, and I was not wasting my money. To me is does not look like it has a huge drop in performance from 3.5 to 4ghz. Plus the hyperthreading will help in other applications. I just wanted to make sure I would get a stable 60fps 1080p gaming experience. Thanks for your help!

only 30$, you can get lucky :)

I didnt find any video showing how to remove cpu from that specific computer, but from other older models you could.

the FPS will depend on the GPU and on the game your are playing, but the i7 will be able to get the most of any GPU out there.

Thank you for your help :)
