Hi, I am looking to buy a CPU cooler to replace my stock one, and I am planning to buy the Hyper 212 EVO, I would like to know if it will fit in my case if I have it vertically like this http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/wp-content/uploads/btcp21.jpg, I use the Cougar Spike case, and I don't want to take my motherboard out of the case, I use the Intel 1150 socket from what i believe, and i have an Intel Core i5-4590 with my motherboard being the ASUS B85M-G R2.0, Will I be able to put it in horizontally if I can't put it in vertically?

Solution

You need to clean any/all existing thermal compound from the CPU's integrated heat spreader. I find that it's easier to clean the CPU's heat spreader when it is removed. If you decide to remove the CPU from its socket make sure you place the socket protector cover, that originally came with the motherboard, on the CPU socket.

Removing the memory gives you better access when installing the backplate and mounting bracket for the CPU cooler.

You can check the space that the CRYORIG H7 is going to occupy with this nifty origami H7...

Are there any smaller CPU coolers that would fit in my case that are good?

The CRYORIG H7 is called the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO killer because it performs much better and quieter than the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.

The CRYORIG H7 is 145mm tall so it'll fit into the Cougar Spike without any problem.

Thank You! However, I have a CoolerMaster SickleFlow 120 on the side panel of my case, could this be a problem?

Also, is there any way I can install the CPU cooler without taking my mobo out of the case?

Where on the side panel? Middle or lower mount? Preferably it should be in the lower mount location.

If you buy the CRYORIG H7 you should be able to re-orient it so it doesn't interfere with the side panel's fan.

On the top fan spot for the side panel

No. There's no cut-outs in the motherboard tray so there's no access to the bottom of the motherboard where the underside of the CPU socket is located.

okay:/ so can i keep the RAM and CPU in the mobo when i take it out, or should I be on the safe side and take out the RAM? Or should I put the mobo back in the case when I install the CPU cooler?
