I planned on upgrading to a Samsung 960 Evo 250gb for a main/OS drive. Its $~60-70 more than a Western digital blue 3D nand m.2. There's a significant increase in speed (540/530 read/write vs 3200/2400 read/write roughly) but the WD blue has a much higher tbw (100tbw vs 500tbw) and seems more reliable. My question is would I benefit from having the 2x faster Samsung or should I just save my money and stick with a more reliable cheaper WD blue?

Endurance is no longer an issue for desktop users.
That said, you would only notice the faster sequential speeds doing virus scans or similar.

One thing I like about Samsung is their free ssd migration app.
It will move your windows C drive easily to their ssd.

The only thing I plan on using this computer for (and have done with it for the past 2 years) is play games, watch YouTube occasionally, and shop on Newegg/amazon/etc. And I don't use antivirus programs due to they're annoyance and just the lack of me really needing one (2 years without and still no viruses lol) I will say, the migration software is a major plus but I plan on a motherboard upgrade so I'll have to do a fresh install either way. But thank you, I appreciate your help :)

depends on your setup, i have 2 ssds my samsung SSD950 is quicker than my main 1 i use adata one, but it is only noticable when you transfer files or something to or from the 950 ssd . its quicker than normal, but thats about it. it has nothing to do with your gaming really. however get a good one. dont get a cheap one. then you will notice how slow things can get. but as i said it depends on your system you have, i have a fast system SLi G1 Gaming 1080's
i7-6950X Extreme Edition
W10 Pro
the ssds just add to the fastness to things.
