Question Would I have the adequate hardware to run this monitor?

I plan on building a system including the 3700x and an RTX 2070 super. I would also like to buy a 1440p 144hz monitor. does the system need to run at 144 frames per second for the monitor to work properly, or would it be perfectly find if the system ran at something like 100 frames per second?
