Question Would I need a 7.1 sound headset to take advantage of my 7.1 external sound card?

So my question is whether i can use regular $5 earphones with my external 7.1 sound card and hear 7.1 sound from it using the cheap earphones or would i need a 7.1 headset to match with my 7.1 sound card?

I'd argue technically yes, but it's going to sound like garbage unless you get a decent set of headphones to go with it.
