Hi.

I currently have i5-4460 CPU paired along with GTX 750 Ti.
750 Ti bottlenecks my CPU, so I was about to buy myself a new GPU.

Which one? 1050 Ti? 1060, or even 1070 ?

Aand, would my CPU bottleneck any of those GPUs ?

Thanks.

The i5-4460 would definitely bottleneck a 1070, probably not so much a 1060. I have an i5-4670k (better than the i5-4460) that bottlenecked my 1070, had to OC to 4.4 GHz but its ok now. I think you underestimate how powerful a 1070 is.

At 60fps a 4460 may be a limiting factor in CPU heavy games. For most users the 1060 is a perfect combo for 1080p 60Hz, only those who absolutely must made out all game settings will benefit from a 1070 but the visual difference of max setting to nearly max is so small it really is for the very OCD of gamers.

I think of it as the same as a 980Ti, which it essentially is for all intensive purposes.
It doesn't bottleneck the 4460, bottleneck is limitation of GPU power through the CPU, that isn't bottlenecking, you're likely just playing CPU intensive games.

I get 100-144+ fps in Overwatch (100% detail and everything else on low)
Mostly a great smooth 130 average.
I play on 144 hz 1080p

It's hard to say, gaming can be a number of different scenarios. Resolution matters (assuming 1080p but since it wasn't mentioned). Some games are more cpu intensive, others more gpu intensive.

The 1060 is a good all around gpu for 1080p on many games. For cs:go the 1060 might be slightly overkill, the 1070 would go unused to the fullest. If playing a game with a lot of intensive mods and improved texture packs like skyrim or others with things like enb, a 1070 might be a good choice. Same for something like ghost recon wildlands depending how high you want to turn up the eye candy.

It is impossible to correctly give a yes/no answer to this 'bottlenecking' question without the knowledge of:

1. The resolution
2. The refresh rate.
3. The game/s.
4. The graphical settings you wish for when you upgrade.

Any CPU can bottleneck any GPU. Any GPU can bottleneck any CPU. It's like a race, there will always be a loser and a winner. It just depends on the sceneario and your performance/graphics quality goal.

At 1080p 144Hz the 1070 is a great choice however in CPU heavy games your fps will be limited by the CPU and not the GPU. High fps gaming is where the 7700k shines even over a similar clocked 7600k. I'd still buy the 1070 but just manage expectation that your CPU will cause lower average and minimum fps in the latest CPU heavy games.

I k ow it's a bit late but....I own a 1060 and a 4460 and the cpu is bottlenecking my gpu, definitely.
Especially if you play new titles.
In wildlands for example,no matter how much I lower the settings my cpu is around 100% and the gpu does not go up to 90%.
And like someone here said, do not underestimate how much power a 1070 offers.
After all, it's not the end of the world but I suggest if you can afford it buying another processor.

Just because the CPU is bottlenecking does not mean there is a problem. There will always be a bottleneck of some sort. If the framerate you receive are above your desired FPS, there is no issue.

If the CPU isn't causing any worrying frame rate limitations there (it isnt), it won't be a concerning bottleneck to any graphics card. If you want to check, turn the resolution in your current pc in Overwatch down to 720p or lower. If the FPS is fine there, your CPU will be fine for any GFX card.

How high settings are you willing to achieve? This will determine which GPU you should get.

Yes, you are right. But for me this CPU doesn't give me any more room to use any other app in background (while playing Wildlands). Of course bottleneck is always there but I said my opinion, not in order to make him think about really buying a new CPU but to highlight that if he wants to play very new titles he could encounter some little issues.
