Would i5-4690 bottleneck with GTX 1080 in a 1080p monitor 144 Hz?

Hello,

I am looking to get the GTX 1080. I have read in some threads that the i5-4690 could bottleneck the GPU. What do you think?

I would also like to know if this card is too overkill for my 1080p 144Hz monitor. I will be switching to 4k in the future like a year from now. Is it worth it to buy 1080?

Pretty much the only reason you buy the i5 4690k is to overclock it to 4.5 basically, thats what everyone does

in a heavily cpu dependant game there may be a bottleneck that a high end i7 cpu would give 2-5 more fps and a 1080 will last long enough that you can use it in your next build a few years from now. because you need to keep in mind most games use only 4 cpu cores so a 6950x 10 core i7 will not give much of a boost in gaming but will in multi core applications like 3d modeling and such
so please get your 1080 and enjoy it

Your CPU is in the top category when it comes to CPU hierarchy http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/cpu-hierarchy,4312.html. You'll be good for years to come and wont have to worry about bottlenecking GPUs. IF you plan on running 4 1080s is when you'll have to worry.
