Would it be a waste to buy a 7970GHz in may?

I was planning on updating from my gtx 570 to a hd7970GHz in may but i was just wondering would i be wasting money so to speak? I know that AMD dont have planned 8000 releases till next year but with no news from nvidia they could release some cards end of year so I dont want to buy my card then few months down the line new, improved, better fps to price cards come out...

Just buy it now, and use it untill your unhappy with it. It still should be pretty relevant when the 8 series comes out.

buy it now, 7970 is no joke. it should last you for a while

If anything happens this year, it will just be marketing. A 28nm refresh/name change. The real successor to the 7970 will be a Volcanic Islands(code word) series card. Hopefully they will be available in 2014 along with vNvidia's future GPU's (Maxwell).
