You make no mention of the type of gaming you enjoy. If you're into FPS, then IPS monitors may not be the most appropriate technology as their response times tend to be around 5ms at best with the lower priced examples running to 6ms or 7ms. Ideally, in FPS gaming, you need fast response times and fast refresh rates if you're a serious gamer and this level of performance tends to be better suited by TN panel technology - particularly the "speedy" examples that offer response times down to 1ms and refresh rates up to 144Hz.
If, on the other hand, gaming is not primary usage and your other application areas include photo editing and others that benefit from more natural colour presentation, wider viewing angles, etc. then, by all means, opt for IPS.
PS: the earlier poster's comments re glossy monitors are valid - they may look impressive at first glance, but after protracted usage, can become uncomfortable to use in longer sessions - eye-strain from reflected glare takes its toll.
But, as the saying goes, the decision is yours to live with...
