Would like to run a chkdsk for my f drive but I am getting errors

I would like to run a chkdsk for my f:/ but whenever I run the command:
"chkdsk f: /f"

I am prompted with:
Cannot open volume for direct access.

Hi there skippy647,

If you are facing some issues with your HDD, it may be a good idea to get your important data off the drive.
Apart from the disk check, you can test the drive with a brand specific testing tool as well.
