I know for a fact that using a software to record your games makes you have a frame drop depending on which software you use. However is that the same using a capture card?

Solution
Probably. Even if you were recording from the an output por on the monitor, the computer would still have to process and save the video files which would probably end up dropping frame rates in some way. Is it as bad as using software? No clue.

If you have a Nvidia card, use Shadowplay. Records with basically no fps loss. I can't even tell a difference from when it's on or off.
