Would my MSI Z97 Gaming 7 bottleneck an M.2 SSD?

I'm currently looking around for a new, faster boot drive and have heard of m.2 SSD for a while now. However, my current board (MSI Z97 Gaming 7) only supports PCIe 2.0 for the onboard M.2 slot. Can I get an adapter to put on one of the PCIe 3.0 slots and run it as a boot drive from there or are there still going to be bottleneck/compatibility issues. Thanks.

Solution
Your mb nvme only supports up to 10 Gb/s, translating to 1.25 GB/s. For video editing, get the adapter and samsung 960 evo, huge speed boost.
Nah, regular sata ssd will suffice, don't bother getting an adapter. You will notice little to none booting speed diff between regular and nvme ssd, not to mention many m2 ssd is sata ssd, just different interface. Real nvme ssd is much more expensive too. From HDD to regular SSD, you will notice huge diff. Get a ~250 gb any brand, so you can put some games on ssd to enjoy much faster game loading as well.

I forgot to mention would there be any increased efficiency working with and editing video files with an nvme ssd over a sata ssd (one of the reasons for looking at nvme m.2)? For example would I get better real time playback within premiere pro as right now my current HDD just feels super slow and sluggish?
