I have an old laptop (HP ENVY 17-j101sa). Trying to replace the motherboard but when I search motherboard for HP ENVY 17-j101sa. I get other HP 17 motherboards. My question is, would these work as well or does it have to be the exact same HP ENVY 17-j101sa? For example here are a few I came across

"HP Envy 17-j Series Laptop Motherboard Hm78 720266-501 2gb NVIDIA Graphics"

"Laptop Motherboard for HP ENVY 17 17-j 720266-001 720266-501 746451-001 6050A2549801 GT740M Main board"

"Mainboard For HP ENVY 17-J Laptop motherboard 720265-501 720265-001 605OA2549501-MB-A02 SR17D DDR3 Tested OK"

Would these work as well for my HP ENVY 17-j101sa?

Why don't you take a look at the motherboard that's in the laptop and then compare them with a motherboard's pictures in the listing you're finding to make sure that the ports line up as well as the placements for the heatsink?!

Laptops might be from a series but there's a reason they have varying SKU's due to minor changes in specs, and even internal layout, not to mention slight deviances in port placements. I would advise that you stick to the exact same motherboard for ease of installation.

If you're confident with the ports being the same and the cooling assembly also being the same on a latter generation, slightly beefy motherboard, then go for it.

Thanks. I emailed the seller on ebay and sent a picture of the motherboard on the device and he says he doesn't see why it shouldn't work. I have attached a picture of my motherboard and the one on his page. I'm trying to get some advice from someone here on toms hard ware about buying or avoiding this.

Here's the listing https://www.ebay.com/itm/2352486707...cd&cnvId=700003&recoId=235248670759&recoPos=1

and mine is attached.
