Would SATA II 3Gb/s bottleneck a SATA III 6Gb/s SSD???

I am looking into buying a 60Gb-120Gb SSD but I only have a mobo with SATA II ports, but am looking to upgrade in the future. Would buying a SATA III 6Gb/s SSD now mean that it would be bottlenecked by the SATA II ports??

From a strictly technical viewpoint there would be a bit of a performance drop but nothing drastic.

From a real world performance viewpoint you will not notice the slight difference. You would have to run one of the synthetic benchmarks in order to measure small differences.

Get a SATA 3 6Gb/s ssd and be happy!

Backing up Johnny's answer.

SATAII does bottleneck a SATAIII drive (that can work to those speeds) but the performance difference compared to a HDD is still massive so its worth it.

I am currently using a SATA 3 SSD on a SATA 2 port. The speed improvements are significantly faster. And no, SATA 2 SSD does not bottleneck an SATA 3 port. It just means that a SATA 2 SSD is not made to SATA 3 levels.

some testing on review sites have shown that Sata 2 and Sata 3 ports did not make much difference in real life usage even though their theortical differences are high because there aren't many applications that work to the max theoretical speed of Sata 3.

U will probably not notice much difference Sata 2 and 3 in

1) older computers (bottlenecks eg. CPU, ram)
2) normal usage eg. web browsing
3) don't constantly engage in copy and write file operation eg, running a server
