would setting my fsb:dram to 1:1 really boost performance?

I been hearing a-lot about setting fsb and dram to 1:1 in the posts. It seems to be a very important setting to everyone.I just ran cpuz and mine is at 5:8 Is that bad?? how do I get mine where it should be? I have a GA-P35-DS4 motherboard / E8400 / 2gig Crucial ddr2 1066 balistix dual ch memory.fsb is currently set to 333x9. core temp reports core#0at 42c core#1at 45c. no load.(for a possible oc if those temps are safe) Another post told someone to do 444x9 to get it right.I dont know if I want to go that high since I just got my new build running good.

I would suggest playing around with it. You have a 1333FSB CPU with memory running at 1066.

In order to run 1:1 the RAM needs to be half the speed of the FSB such as 1600FSB and DDR2 800 or 1333FSB and DDR2 667. Intel chips tend to run more efficiently with a 1:1 ratio but since your RAM is running so fast it makes up for any inefficiencies. I would suggest seeing how much you can or want to overclock your CPU. You should (with aftermarket cooling) be able to get to around 440*9 or 1760FSB which would run 1:1 with DDR2 880. You can then underclock your RAM and decrease the timings to something like 4-4-4-10 or 3-3-3-8, I've seen reports of those modules reaching 3-3-3-8 at 800Mhz.

A lot of things go into cooling your CPU such as type of cooler and case but your temps look about right if your using the stock cooler.

i have a similar question. i made a thread in motherboards, ecs. i have an e8400, 4gb kingmax ddr800 (2x2gb dimms) and an ECS P35T-A (p35 chipset). anyway i hav all the calculations to set it to 1:1 but i dont think my mobo has a pci/pci express lock (in order to prevent the frequency going up too high). can an1 elaborate on where or not my baord has it? (i would assume yes as its a new baord unlike say 4 years ago, but im not sure).

But, do u really wanna run your fsb at 533mhz?? Wud stress ur mobo a lot and create unnecessary heat.. Running it at 1:1 over 5:8 wudnt really give you ANY noticeable performance gain with Intel CPU.. Maybe abt .1 or .2% difference (I guess).. Not really worth it to run ur mobo at 533 IMHO..

That is an older CPU cooler, I had one of those on my P4 3.2 Northwood. It was a good cooler in it's day but newer coolers are much more effective. With that said the mark of a good CPU cooler is not so much it's ablity to keep your CPU very cool at idle but it's ability to shed heat while under load. You should record your temps at idle as well as under load and it will give you a good idea how well your cooler is working. Take for instance my system, I have a Ultra 120 Extreme and a E6300 overclocked to 2.8Ghz and my idle temps are around 40c while my load temps after 24hrs of Orthos are around 60c. The key is to keep your load temps within the normal operating tempuratures for your CPU so you can overclock and just be sure to keep your load temps under 65-70c and you'll be fine.

What Performance issues are you trying to address?
Does you system seem lagging?

Except for the e-Pencil, there is no reason to OC for the sake of OCing.
The E8400 is quite a powerful CPU at stock values.

If you went cheap and bought an E2160 which is not very powerful at stock, I would definitely say OC.
In your case, OC if you want or things feel sluggish.
However, don't think failing to do so is not "Doing it right".

The Nice thing about your system is that in 1-2 years if the CPU does get sluggish, you can push it 1/3 or more faster if need be. But if you don't need to now, don't worry about not doing it.

Your right of course and after thinking about it Im not going to bother with it since the nvidia 9800s are just around the corner.I HOPE so since that was the reason I went with evga and not an asus top version.Step up is a really good program evga has as you can see from thier sales .Not to mention pretty good support.I think I will try to get my memory timings down a notch since they barely get warm.

ausch30 you are so smart and my memory is now a 1:1 ratio :) at 266.7mhz with 1066FSB and 4 PC21066 OZC 8GB memory Toltal running at 3.20Ghz OC from 2.93 QX6800 :)

His is a 5:8 rati...but mine is a 3:10 ratio, and if try to overclock my CPU and RAM its at 1:4 (Which is even further apart) Could someone tell me quickly hy its that far apart when i dont think my ram is the best...not by a long shot? i have a 1055T Phenom II and 8GB of Generic (ill say) RAM
