Hello... here is a performance ranking chart of CPU's...http://www.cpubenchmark.net/common_cpus.html
That CPU is near the Top of the Pack... it will not Disappoint you in performance.
But, THE GPU is the real work horse in displaying the EYE Candy to your Monitor... And Thus Most people would recommend a lower cost i5, and spend the left over for a better GPU investment.
I'm planning on getting this cpu and was wondering if this cpu would be good in games?
Well if you only play and dont plan to record/edit/use rendering etc. then any I5 Haswell will run good in games. There's very little performance to gain by swapping i5 with i7 if strictly for gaming compared to the price. Get the 4690K for some heavy duty CPU power as an example.
But most games don't take advantage of its features.
You need to be asking a different question. Any modern CPU will run any game.
What games do you want to run and what quality of graphics experience do you want/can you afford?
Getting the GTX970 STRIX
Good choice. The reviews are good.
In that case, I would be looking at a mild overclocking build using an i5 processor (4690K) or, if that's not you, a locked i5 (4690) processor. You will save about $100 on the processor. If you are doing other serious work that can use the hyperthreading, then that changes things.
When you come to you build allow enough thermal and power headroom for the overclocking.
