Would the Intel Xeon1230v3 bottleneck the 980?

well, basically what the title says... the xeon is my current processer i upgraded to it roughly around June, my current GPU is the R9 280x 3gb but im wanting to upgrade something..

No it will not bottleneck 980. You may want to wait for AMD's new GPU line up though or GTX 990 or 960.

970 is already out. And can't say if 960 will be better or not as it is not out yet. But r9 280X is still a pretty good GPU. You should wait until Q1 2015 and see what AMD comes up with.

not really, i just dont feel that its going to be future proof =/

The xeon will be totally fine with a 980.

The 960 will obviously be inferior to the 970 (likely to be the same gpu with more cores disabled), the 990 is likely to be 2x 980 sli on the same card (like 690).
