[SOLVED] Would the small silver rectangles on the back (non pin side) being damaged cause the cpu to not work?

When we turn on our new build all fans turn and everything gets power, but it will not boot. There is a red light for the cpu on the motherboard. When rechecking all of the components we noticed that one of the small silver rectangles on the back of the cpu on one side was angled and not connected completely. Could this cause the cpu to malfunction?

That just looks like thermal paste drops and not part of the chip. Also, why does the thermal paste look so dry if it's a fresh build.

It isn't thermal paste drops. They are small metal pieces that are connected to the card. The left side of the card has them as well.
The thermal paste is still tacky to the touch.

What cpu is it? And things on top are for testing, debugging and should impact anything. I would look at the motherboard and see if you bent pins there.

Vga error is an actual physical problem with the gpu, like zero video output etc.

Ram error is an actual issue with the ram, like not seated correctly etc

Cpu error is pretty much everything else you can think of, and that includes pcie transmission errors from the gpu, ram timing errors starting from the memory controller etc. It's seriously a catch-all error since one way or another everything leads back to the cpu.

Chances of cpu error from those triangles - 0.

You could have bent pins possibly, but more likely the error is due to something else, such as incompatible cpu with the bios version, driver conflicts, registry conflicts, could be any number of things.

yes. That sounds like you bent a CPU pin on the motherboard? Or have you knocked off one of the surface mounted resistors on top? That would definitely cause it not to POST.

What is the CPU model? Could that be a little resistor that got broken off?

Yes your i9 has lost its small resistor, sorry to say but there is nothing you could do for it.

I know it's really stupid for Intel to put the fragile resistors there, but manipulating a CPU is a professional job you have to be very careful.
