I currently have a AMD phenom ii x2 555, but my computer lately has been going very slow at opening up things and is just slow in general (but once the game is open the game is smooth). ive been wanting a new cpu for a while mainly because he person i bought my computer from did a horrible job with the thermal paste and im really worried its going to get onto my motherboard and ruin my computer. i was just wondering if the AMD athlon ii x3 450 is a step up.

Solution
Not really honestly. What's your motherboard?

And if you're concerned about the thermal paste, take off the heatsink and clear it up and reapply it correctly.

If it's slow at opening things up it could be a slow hard drive, or even a virus. Try some antivirus/anti-malware scans.

Most thermal pastes arent conductive, so dont worry about it getting on the mobo, its fine.

Its not a huge step up.

If you computer wasnt slow before, its probably software issue. You should wipe the HDD and reinstall windows a fresh, will speed things up.
