looking to get a new GPU for christmas, for light gaming(2-3 hrs weekly) autocad/ photoshop/ movies movies movies/ will be running 3 monitors on it.

i was looking at 3 asus GPUs which are the following 6950 2gb 256 bit- $269 after MIR, 6870 1gb 256bit- $169 after MIR or 6850 1gb 256bit $139 after MIR... wasnt looking to spend as much as the 6950 but if its worth the extra $100 bucks to be future proof then i can make it do-able. but if the 6870 would run 3 displays for like 2-3 years then i can ill prolly buy another home system then.

The best option is to wait for the HD 7000 series to come out. It would be a few more weeks but then for the same price you should be able to get a better GPU or if you still want a 6950 you will be able to get it a little bit cheaper. Expected release date is sometime between January 10-13th. Then about a week or so to be able to get one.

the 7xxx models will be pretty expensive? or are the prices posted yet? i can wait and see though cause im not in a hurry to buy one. i still have yet to buy my other monitors so no hurry. is there a bunch of hype about the new 7xxx series? and does the price usually drop pretty quick after the release?

also on newegg i used the psu calc and it said i needed like 545w psu, im using FX 6core cpu, 16gb ram, 6950 gpu, 990fxa ud3 mobo, reg dvd-rom, and 7200 HDD. so would i be okay just getting a modular 600w psu? i most likely wont upgrade to this rig. i would build another one.
