Would this build be ok?

Hi. I am planning on building a gaming PC some time around September. Have been looking at these components so far and wanted to know if they would go together well. This is going to be my first build so any piece of advice will be appreciated. Thanks.


CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 970 3.5GHz ($139.99 @newegg)

Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-870A-USB3 ($94.99 @newegg)

RAM: Patriot G Series 'Sector 5' (2 x 2GB) DDR3 2000 ($49.99 @newegg)

Videocard: GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 460 1GB ($185.99 @newegg)

Power supply: CORSAIR CX600 600W ($69.99 @newegg)

If youre going to go with AMD you would probably be better buying a cheaper CPU and an AM3+ board and buying one of the new CPU's when they come out. Alternatively you would get pretty similar if not better performance from a cheaper i3-2100. With your RAM i would get 8GB of 1333 or 1600Mhz stuff because youre not going to notice that extra 400Mhz and it would be cheaper too. 8GB is pretty much the new standard too. 600W is massive overkill for your PSU, 400W would be enough for that, the CX-430 is great value. Maybe then you could save enough cash to upgrade the GPU to an HD 6870 or something.

If you are willing to sacrifice overclocking you could get i3-2100 and an H61 board. That almost saves enough cash for a GTX 570.

And if you don't go with a 570 then I'd recommend the vanilla 560. Its core is set up exactly the same as the 460 but it's clocked a lot higher and overclocks higher for a few dollars more.

Get a Phenom II X4 955BE along with a AM3+ motherboard and overclock the processor as 970 and it'll become a 970.

You'll be fine with a Corsair CX430. 600W is for SLI/Crossfire.

Whats your budget and resolution of your monitor?

Thanks for all the replies, guys. I really appreciate them, but I think I'll go with an Intel processor as jmsellars1 suggested.

I'm trying to keep within a $550 - $600 budget (without the HDD, case, monitor, periferals) and I have yet to choose a monitor, which I'm probably going to get as a birthday present anyways.
