Recently, I’ve been looking to build a new pc to play most games on HIGH/ULTRA settings @1080p on a 144hz monitor. I’m new at building so any advice on the parts I picked and if some parts might be overkill for my needs.

Here’s the build :

CPU : I7 8700K
CPU COOLER : CORSAIR H100i V2
MBD : ASUS PRIME Z370-A
RAM : CORSAIR VENGEANCE LPX 16GB DDR4 3000MHZ
HDD : 2TB HDD
SSD : SAMSUNG EVO 250GB
GPU : GTX 1080TI
PSU : SEASONIC GOLD 600W 80+

Solution
For the most part, no it's not overkill. But, there will be times in which the GTX 1080 Ti will not be fully utilized at 1080p resolution. Be sure you get 2x8GB of RAM for dual-channel. Typically the 1080 Ti is for 1440p and higher. But even at 1440p, some games aren't getting super high frame rates. It would be a good future proof 1080p system.

Solution
I think that is a very good system and will see you through for a long time. The only change that you might want to consider is changing the motherboard to a Z390 model as you will then have a further upgrade path to the 9900K should it ever come down from it's absurd price...Just gives you a bit more flexibility for a future upgrade...
