While I have done some research, I'm still unsure. The parts on this list seem to be on par with the recommended specs found here:

Specifically, I plan to be playing newer games on lower setting with an HTC Vive. I have heard a lot about budget builds being made that run VR well enough, and was hoping to be able to upgrade my already existing rig to VR ready. I'm fairly new to this though, so if there's anything I could improve (specifically price and stability, as I want to spend as little money as possible while having parts that won't catch fire), I would greatly appreciate the pointers.

In terms of budget, I'm currently operating around CA$700 (568.62 USD) to upgrade an already existing PC (hence why some items are marked as already purchased).

Solution
You really need a GTX 1070 or higher to run VR at all. Unless you want to play VR games that have the same graphics fidelity as Angry Birds.

I find it interesting that you say that. When I checked on this website, it looked like there was very little drop in performance with a substantial increase in value (performance/price). Is there really such a large difference in performance between the two cards? Or is the scale of the site's graphical representations simply such that I misread the performance gap?

Regardless, thank you for confirming my fear that a 1070 would be the only option, short of going above and beyond.
