would this ips monitor be ok for gaming

was wondering if this monitor would be good for gaming it is ips and such but is also 4k is what i was going for however im not sure wich 4k monitors would be faster for gaming as i dont understand all the panel types

For most gaming, an IPS monitor would be fine as long as you don't mind the slightly higher response times they have compared to gaming specific monitors. Normally, an IPS panel will have a response time of between 5-10 milliseconds, and a gaming-specific TN panel will normally have a response time of 1-2 milliseconds.

Unless you're a professional gamer who seeks every advantage in online competitions, it isn't really necessary to get a gaming specific monitor with a super low response time. IPS panels will have much better viewing angles and color accuracy compared to TN panels. So if you're not a professional gamer and also intend to watch movies on your monitor from time to time, an IPS monitor would be a better choice.

The resolution of a monitor usually does not affect its speed or response time. However, some 4K monitors are restricted to 30Hz refresh rates, which means you will only ever get as high as 30 frames per second in everything you do with it, and that is not really acceptable for gaming.

Ah, that is a 1440p monitor, which should still look considerably better than 1080p on a 27" screen. It will be just fine for gaming, and should have a pretty good picture quality. But also take into consideration that some monitors are now compatible with Nvidia's G-Sync, and other monitors that are compatible with AMD's FreeSync is just around the corner. If you don't know what G-Sync and FreeSync is, I suggest watching an explanation of it on YouTube:

I personally think it's a very good feature to have, and can really make a noticeable difference in the overall gaming experience. If you're interested, I can give you a few recommendations.

i have a 280x but i may opt for nvidia when the time comes. i know i will probably need a crossfire or sli for 4k and as to gsync and free sync yes i would be looking at somthing like that to. i found this review wich seemed to have a better selection for 4k monitors http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/top-best-computer-monitors,3917.html wonder if they missed any excellent picks

i like the gsync but im not seeing many if any free sync amd monitors

A 280X will not run 4K very smoothly, you will need at least SLI GTX 970's to get playable frame rates at 4K, so definitely plan ahead for an upgrade. If you have your mind set on going 4K, that is.

The monitor roundup you found is a pretty good guide to go by, you can use that to help you make the final selection.
