Question Would this ram stick work with my laptop?

You need to use RAM sticks that are identical in order for them to work properly as mixing them leads to compatibility issues usually.
Generally buying them as an identical pair and checking they are listed on your manufacturer's QVL -qualified vendors list is the sure way to ensure compatibility.

But the laptop has only 1 ram slot (that's empty) and 4gb on-board ram

OK I see. In that case you will need to find out what the laptop's onboard memory is and match it perfectly with an additional stick.
The speed, and timing of the RAM are the factors that need matching.

I'll check when I power it on, cause it's not really in a working condition atm, it used to be my sister's laptop and she broke the screen and the hard drive died so I'm currently "restoring" it, got a new SSD for it and ordered a new screen
I'll give an update when the screen shows up
