I still want to use Windows 7 until 2020 and possibly upgrade to Windows 10 at that point.

So with a Skylake i3-6320... instead of buying a Z170 board now, could I buy a Z270 board instead & then when I'm ready for a new CPU in a few years, pick up a Kaby Lake CPU and have it work right away with my pre-existing Z270 board?

I would just buy a Kaby Lake CPU now + Z270, but I want to make sure I can still use Windows 7 as long as possible before upgrading, because I have audio gear that work perfectly with Windows 7.

Looks all ok to me. And you are Kabylake ready after 4 yrs.

CPU: Intel Core i3-6320 3.9GHz Dual-Core Processor ($158.89 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Asus STRIX Z270-E GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($199.00 @ B&H)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($99.99 @ Jet)
Total: $457.88
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

But you can choose 6100 instead and save around 50 bucks. Wont be much of a difference over 6320.
