Would this system benefit from O/C?

Hi folks,

This forum has been pretty informative, but I'm a little confused as to whether or not its gonna be worth the time for me to OC my PC below or not.

It seems some PCs O/Cing ability is limited by Mobo, so I would think that mine might be nothing very flash.

Do you think I should give it a go? I was gonna upgrade but I noticed a huge perforance diff by adding another 512 stick of ram to the PC. I therfore was thinking that I might wait to upgrade and overclock if possible.

MY PC:

Thermaltake XaserV v5000
GA 7VRX (rev 2.)
1Gig PC2700 ram (I think it is actually 3200 but limited by mobo)
AMD XP2400+
Edit: Oh I forgot, I put a good fan & HS on already, it now runs pretty cool about 40 DegC.
GeXcube 9600Pro-Lite
120G IDE H.D
Samsung 172X LCD
lite-on 4X dvd burner
Dont know what other info is important

Thanks in advance
Frosty

Generally you can overclock any computer. Since you have a Gigabyte motherboard, enter the BIOS and hit Ctrl-F1, that should open up some new options in the BIOS (Sort of an advanced bios).

There are gains to be made from overclocking. Check out my results in my signature, to see what kind of differences are made from overclocking.

Pending on cooling and voltage to the northbridge on the mobo, Id say you can try upping the system clock to like 200. Most mobos will give you issues with going over the stock max FSB so slowly up it and monitot the NB temp and watch for stability issues and software corruption.

Naturally you would most likely have to up the vcore so the CPU will remain stable. Just monitor the CPU die temp and make sure it does not break over 60c on laod. Upping that system clock will give you a noticable performance boost if you can up to 200mhz (400fsb).
