I just upped my graphics card to a EVGA GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition from a GTX 980 and got an HTC Vive. Everything was pricey enough as it was so I didn't upgrade my processor. I primarily use my system for gaming and some light 3D modeling and programming every now and then just to learn things, nothing major like Indie devs would do. My current setup:
i7-4790, 3.60 Ghz
GTX 1080 Ti FE
16GB Corsair Vengence Pro (DDR3)
Corsair RM850 PSU
256 SSD (For primary programs and boot drive)
4TB HDD (For loading games and non-essential programs)
Gigabyte GA-Z97MX-Gaming 5 Mobo
I don't run anything overclocked but I want to make sure I'm getting the most out of gaming. It's been about 3-4 years since I've upgraded my PC so not sure if the i7-4790 is considered dated yet or still a strong contender.
