Would Windows 7 work if I changed my CPU and Motherboard?

Hi,

I'm building a new PC but am reusing the old SSD to put into the new one. But I've always been wondering, what would happen if I didn't go into the BIOS and set my PC to boot from DVD? Would Windows 7 even load?

It might load. It will be screwey, and it may fail the "Genuine Advantage" tool once it detects the new hardware (if you were lucky enough for it to load).

You really need to re-install windows for everything to work right. And if you have an OEM version, you're going to need a new copy of windows.

If it's OEM no , if it's retail version yes.

More than likely won't load , due to driver issues.

Clean install should be performed , for best performance.

Yes, I am installing Windows 8. I am just worried if I forget to put the Windows 8 disc in and it tries to boot to Windows 7 and my computer gets messed up.

Just put the 8 disc in and perform a clean install on the boot , you will need to format , so make sure your backed up before you proceed.

Yep, thanks for that. I don't need to backup as my current Windows 7 installation is pretty clean, only programs are Firefox, Chrome and CPU Thermometer.

Then you should be able to boot from 8 disk and format for a clean install.

Just set the optical drive first in the BIOS so it boots from the disk.

Should boot the disc.
