Question Would you recommend this for something like rust or call of duty or fortnite?

Hi my brother is looking to buy a budget prebuilt for his son who likes to play fortnite and rust a ton ( currently on PlayStation). He sent me this link asking if it was good enough and I just don't really know all that much about newer systems these days so I figure I would ask here to get some info . How would something like one of these hold up in games like rust mainly , and fortnite / call of duty. Any suggestions would be helpful thanks.

Hey there,

IMO, the PSU is prob garbage, and the GPU is underpowered. Whilst not a bad GPU, it's more on the entry level side, than mid-to high performance GPU's. Would be sufficient for 1080p high hz/FPS (in some games, like those you mentioned- maybe not COD). Any AAA games would run at about 60fps at 1080p, possibly having to dial back some in game settings.

Ram is on the slow side. Ideally should be looking for 3200mhz as a min.

The motherboard is just standard fare. Nothing spectacular.

For 1k, I don't think it's great value. Is there an option to self build? Would be better components then.

Thanks for the reply , my brother doesn't really know too much about parts and components ( me either tbf). The three builds I posted up top are what he sent me and I figured I would try my luck here. The last build on the list seemed ok as far as GPU 3060, and ram 3200mhz, I did suggest he up the 16 to 32 just incase . I was not sure about the CPU being Intel® Core™ Processor i5-12400F 6P/12 + 0E 2.50GHz . Its mainly for his 14 year old son who loves to play rust a ton.

The 12400/f is one of e best bang for buck gaming CPU's available right now. Along with a 3060 and 32gbs a3200mhz, would be a very solid 1080p high hz/fps gamer. And would be plenty for a couple of years of top gaming with AAA games.

So do you think this pc would be an ok purchase for the guy.

Well he threw me another option, the one above for 949$ or this one for 300ish more. Is It objectively better and worth the extra cash ?

In essence would option 1($949) or 2($1219) be the better purchase for the price/performance . Thanks again for the advice and reply.

The one for 1219 I like better but you can customize it. I would customize to this.

Change to i5 12400
Change gpu to 6700xt
Change psu to Corsair rmx 850 or 750. I run the 850 and like it.
Change cpu to cooler to an air cooler since this pc is for a kid. Less things to go wrong.

Here’s another option. Buy the geek squad warranty though imo.

Edit…not always a big hp fan but this seems useful. Looks like this may actually have a standard psu. If that’s the case may get that and consider replacing the psu with a nice Corsair rmx unit or something similar so that you don’t have to worry about that. Many times system builders cheap on power supplies.

Thanks, he seems set on the $1219 model last I spoke to him, is there any huge difference between the i5-12600KF and the i5 12400f you suggested? Same question to the 3060 to the 6700xt? He hasn't had much luck with Best buy purchases recently so I think he would stay away from those but thank you. Say he purchased the $1219 model as it is listed, think that would hold up well enough for a year or few with decent to good fps in games?
