I am thinking of buying this from newegg http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16834232863 for both gaming and college thats coming up. But I see equally bad and good reviews on it, mainly people saying they got a defective product. I also did a search and there are many videos of people saying they got a defective item from there and that newegg has terrible customer service.

I also noticed that newegg is just a seller sorta like amazon. So whatever is defective has to be because of the manufacturer?

Solution
It is difficult to purchase expensive and complex items online. I went through the same questions when I built my PC. You just have to be open-minded. Read through the reviews and see if the complaints would even apply to your situation. Sometimes bad reviews come from ID10T errors or people just upset that the product didn't come in the color they wanted it. There are also legit complaints, so take note of them and decide if there are enough complaints about the same thing to warrant a real concern.

Newegg does sell things as a 3rd party via their marketplace, so do a little homework before you buy. Look up the seller online and see if there is more feedback elsewhere. Check Amazon for your product, as they have pretty in depth...
Newegg is a very solid retailer. DOA systems really have nothing to do with the retailer either. Generally people are more likely to leave a review if they have a problem than someone with a fully functional product, they have no reason to go back.

IF there were an issue either newegg or Asus would handle it easily.

Check Amazon for your product, as they have pretty in depth reviews from customers too. Look up reviews done by various tech reviewers. Some reviews go into great detail and can help quite a bit.

In my experience, Newegg is flooded with negative reviews on many of their products. I'm sure there are positive experiences, but for some reason people only want to leave a review when they have a problem. Take all the negativity with a grain of salt. People that are upset are motivated by that emotion and will go to great lengths to exaggerate the problem. I have had nothing but good experiences with them over the years.

Just keep cool and do your own homework on it before you make a decision.

Newegg has great customer service. A lot of bad reviews are from people who don't like the product because it came in blue instead of red or the shipping took a day longer than they thought it should or something else completely out of Newegg's control. I've bought thousands of dollars of items from them and have NEVER had a problem with customer service.
As for that particular laptop you linked, it would seem the PRODUCT is the problem given the number of broken screen complaints.
