Would you upgrade whole system if it still solves your needs? Comparison with new one offered.

I have an i7-860 with 12gb ram and a 280x that runs everything I need (overwatch, lol).

Thing is I know new releases like Red Dead Redemption 2 might cause my system to struggle, so for a long time I have been wanting to upgrade.

I am offered what follows for 750€ (and a looong 5 hour drive).

i7 7600k
MSI 1060 GB
MSI H170M PRO
G.SKILL RIPJAWS 2x8 GB RAM 3000mhx 2400
Corsair V650M 80 (bronze (will use my platinum one)
Samsung 750 EVO 250GB
3TB toshiba
Case
Wifi card
Cooler I will replace

1 year guarante.

Would you upgrade the system or wait for a new drop in prices, even if it comes in a few years?

Is the 750€ price tag for a used system on point?

Thanks!

What country?

If you have a case, power supply, OS, and drives, CPU cooler, you can get quite the core system for 750€

If it was all spent on just CPU, Motherboard, RAM, and a new GPU anyway.

If that is the processor you want to go for, you should be getting a Z170 chipset board at the very least with DDR4-3200MHz rams Your am specs look a little confusing. Is it 2400MHz or 3000? The chipset it's on at the moment will force the rams to run at 2133MHz(downclocked). The PSU is also an expensive paperweight. Why don't you share with us your current system specs and if your budget for a new build is 750 Euro's or more then we could build you a more recent system...perhaps :)

Sure.

My actual specs are as follow:

i7 860
2 x Kingston 4GB PC3-12800 (800 MHz)
2 x Kingston 2GB PC3-10700 (667 MHz)
Sapphire R9 280X Tri
MSI p55 gd55
EVGA SuperNova p2 650

On his computer the confusion is mine, for the ram I wanted to put 24000

G.Skill Ripjaws V K2 Black 16GB (2x8GB) 3000 Mhz (PC4-24000) CL15

And regardign my budget, yes, it's 750€ and I am open to discussion and help, so thanks for your reply!

Well, thats why I'm asking.

Distance calculators estimate the cost on 30€ both ways, so lets price the system at 780€.

Spain.

CPU around 300
GPU around 300
Motherboard around 120
RAM around 150

The things that I won't use I'll sell plus my system things.

Well that adds up to 870, so here is probably the best for gaming:

Or the 6-core i5-8400 instead. (Alternatively you could spend about the same as the i7-7700k on an i5-8600k and then overclock)

And finally, an interesting AMD option. And for cost savings you could switch to the R5-1600 (Though you might have to invest in a new cooler, if the stock one doesn't meet your needs)

Wow, many thanks for the time an effort you took to do this.

Now, if its possible to ask:

Would you go for the 780€ second hand thing, then try to resell my stuff and his to lower the amount spent? Bear in mind that build also comes with the Samsung EVO and 3TB hard drive.

Would you rather go for the new stuff and how much does this new products improve on the 780 "build"?

Or would you, seeing as I am currently "happy" with my system, wait for prices to drop back on the components (RAM specially)?

I'm not really sure anyone can make that choice for you. Buying a used system to part some of it out, and sell another system entirely, seems like a lot of work. But if you are willing to do it and think you will come out ahead, then go for it.

On the other side, you have new systems in the form of the 8th gen and Ryzen choices. Only reason the 7700k makes a recommendation is because it is quite inexpensive compared to normal i7 K series prices.

Thank you!

I'll wait, buy an SSD and squeeze at least a new year from this comp.
