Agreed I guess, I have addicted friends and it's a sad life they live. From their point of view they seem to get as much attention as they could ever want, but from the outside they're sad shut-ins who never tag along to the movies or out for a drive or anything else for that matter.

Its like gambling in Vegas and having the local cop arrest you for it when you get home. Or going to a prositute in Amsterdam, and then get brought up on charges when you get back. The enticement originated in Texas so that's where she crossed the legal line. Sounds like a lot of people dropped the ball on parenting this kid. They both need help.

As for people cheering, what if it was a 42yo man enticing a 16yo girl? People would talk about much of a perversion of the 42yo man.

Just a guess here.

The way I read it, she was arrested on the flight back home, not after she got back home. So technically, she was in US airspace and still in the US. Now the reason that she was arrested, is because while what she did was not illegal in her home country, it was illegal in the country that the activity took place in (the US). Example: If you are from a country where pot is illegal and go to a country where pot is legal, and buy it, you have done nothing wrong since the actions were legal where they took place (we're assuming that you buy it and then smoke it and do not cross any borders with it). However, if you live in a country where pot is legal and travel to a country where it is illegal, then you can face charges in that country since you broke that countrys law(s).

One thing the article mentioned, and didn't fully clarify, was that the boy lied about his age. He said he was 20 years old. Did the woman know he was only 16? Furthermore, how does one actually go about verifying the age of somebody they are talking to online?

I'm not a law-expert by any stretch of the imagination, but how would a trial go in something like this?

Though she met the boy in Canada, she did commit a crime in Texas. She contributed to the deliquency of a minor, lewd conduct (sex chats), etc. etc. It's just the same as if she were to gamble online (with a Vegas casino), or solicit an Amsterdam prostite online, from Texas.

Bottom line though, she just pissed people off and they found a way to lock her up.

not if you dont buy it and smoke it in that country you cant... she didnt bring the kid back with her.

Both of them may be extremely sad cases, but I can't see blaming HER for the failures of HIS parents, nor for HIS disobedience when they said "No." "Ask your parents" may have been unreasonable, but it doesn't sound like criminal wrongdoing. Her intentions may have been outside the bounds of typical Christian pseudo-morality, but that also doesn't make them wrong; I'm not sure whose rights were being violated here, even if some poor decisions were made.

I feel bad for these two individuals. One of my friends online actually moved to Brazil in November to marry a 41 year old he met online. I haven't seen a happier couple to be honest. Not sure how this will all hold up in court, but it should be a good read.
