I want to play a mage or a priest. Have played mage in Morrowind and Cleric
in Nwn. I like both. Maybee cleric a little bit better. I'm usually playing
alone in single mode. WoW is my first game on the net. But which one shall
I choose? Shall I choose a figure who has my qualifications? What's your
experiences? Thanks for all help. Bernt E

They are both physically weak, but the mage is perhaps more fragile, and
does better in groups. But from what I've seen, all characters in WoW are
well-balanced, and if you play them 'as designed' they are all good at solo.
It all comes down to a matter of taste. My favorite is my Warlock, but I
don't have much experience with other classes.

Try em all up to level 10 or so and see what you like....

Note: WoW priests are different from D&D clerics in a few ways.

D&D clerics can wear plate armor and can survive on the frontline.
WoW priests are cloth only and gets smacked around just like mages
(WoW and D&D).

Just thought I should mention that since you said you came from a
Neverwinther Nights cleric.

As this hasn't been mentioned yet: If you usually play solo, I would
recommend that you choose a PVE server. Soloing on a PVP server is
extremely annoying (at least to me) as you will constantly be jumped by
other players of the opposing faction when they outnumber and/or outlevel
you.

Soloing is fine until level 20 when you can stay out of the contested areas
- but after that you're basically out of options if you dislike being
ganked.

Well in 3rd Ed, and probably 3.5, D&D rules mages can now wear armour,
they just have a penalty when casting.

If you plan on soloing quite a bit, the priest would be a better choice. As
others have mentioned priests wear cloth armor just like mages. The
difference is that priests have tremendously more survivability. Plan on
going with Shadow talents until you reach 55+ levels and then respec to a
more group friendly build (heavy Discipline with some Holy talents is
popular). As a Shadow priest you can still heal effectively up until you
reach the higher level instances and then that's where Discipline talents
will make your job as a healer a bit easier. The Holy talent tree needs a
boost and not many people put more than 17 points or so in it.
