I have purchased a bundle of Cruzer Edge 16G usb sticks, but I cannot remove the write protection from any of them. I can read everything that I stored on first use, but since then no success. Looking on the web it seems to be a frequent problem, but with no satisfactory solutions posted.
I have tried: CMD>diskpart>list disk> select disk # (using correct number) and then tried a number of commands including clean, but I get the reply that the disk is write protected.
In desparation, I have finally run the initial software stored on the stick and set a password, but stiil no joy. Can anyone help please? Most frustrating !

Becoming write protected is probably the most common (not necessarily frequent) sign that a USB stick has gone bad. It goes into write protect mode to prevent loss of existing data. It's usually irreversible.
