Write protection for a DVD

Hello, I'm trying to format a DVD-R disk that I made so I can reuse it for something else, but when I try executing the format, a pop up window tells me that the disk is write protected. Is it possible to fix this? Thank you for your help.

DVD-R disks can't be reused. You need a DVD-RW to do that.
