Hi.
My pc suddenly became so slow its practically impossible to do anything. Im getting random writing delay errors that say that some data has been lost. Event viewer also shows a lot of warnings and errors relating to the harddisk(paging operation, controller error). Here is one I managed to catch

Safe mode works fine, but I have no idea what causing it and what to do.

Any ideas?
Thanks

If the HD remains at 100% health (which should) and only performance decreases, it must be the HD connection or motherboard, most likely the digital cable connection, but check both power and digital connections and move the digital cable to a different SATA port or IDE Channel. I see you are replacing the H D digital cable, so go ahead if moving it to a different digital port doesn't help.
Install Hard Disk Sentinel to diagnose Hard Drive problems.. if the results are good with high % rates for Performance and Health... the problem is the Power Supply.. The hard drive may still register bad performance or health caused by a bad PSU, so there are some results to analize and testing with another PSU before determining if the Hard Drive is bad.

I once had a computer that had this problem on which the PSU soon burned out... but I've never seen a hard drive giving this symptom, they usually give out before reaching this condition, so there's a good chance the problem is the PSU.

Safe mode may be working fine because less information to handle obviously requires less power... I may be wrong but a HDS scan should help determine the HD condition and if it happens to be inconclusive, replacing the PSU should determine the culprit.

Reset Bios default and run chkdsk C: /r/u to scan the HDD for error.

From the Bios, also check which mode the HDD is, like SATA or IDE compatible...etc.

We may try install the latest mobo driver and follow by a reboot.
Hope the new mobo chipset driver can help with a better stable environment.
Also install the latest HDD controller driver if there is any.

Hope this helps.

Ran a chkdsk. Then I moved this HDD into another computer and it worked fine. HD Sentinel reported 99% performance and 100% health. It also showed "Problems occurred between the communication of the disk and the host (about 60000) times." At this point I though it is the PSU, but just to be sure I replaced the PSU from the second computer. At first, the same problem occurred. After some replugging/restarting it wouldn't boot at all(NTRDL missing...). Now I managed to boot it into XP and it seems to work fine. However, HD Sentinel now reports 75% performance and the number of problems keep increasing( and performance decreases).

So now I am lost again...

(Tried resetting bios, updating drivers(although didnt found anything related to hard disks), changing cables...)
