Wrong cpu being detected MSI Z97 Gaming 5

Motherboard is detecting the i7 4790k as an Intel Celeron G1840 2.8ghz.

It's a brand new i7 and MSI Z97 gaming 5 motherboard, corsair rm850 psu, MSI 970 4Gb GPU, all should work together but not being detected correctly by the MSI motherboard. Strangely the board detects the cpuid correctly as 306c3/1d which I believe is the i7 4790k chip but it still shows in the MSI bios and Windows 10 as a Celeron 2.8 why???

What's wrong a setting, cpu faulty or motherboard faulty?

Yes updated to the latest BIOS downloaded from MSI, also tried a couple of the older versions, no luck with any. I've also checked what CPUID the Celeron G1840 2.8Ghz has and it's actually the same as the i7 4790k, so now I'm starting to think that I've been sent the wrong processor (originally assumed the CPUID would be unique per processor obviously not the case),

So although the Intel box and all paperwork refers to the i7 4790k I guess it's possible Intel has made a mistake and shipped the wrong processor in the i7 box, tried to recheck the chip but the heatsync paste means I can't read the chip details, and I don't have any paste to clean it off to check. seems a little unlikely but can't think of any other option as everything is working perfectly with the MSI board and Celeron processor, CPU-Z reports it as a Celeron with all the correct facts, think I'll probably return the CPU and order another one, as running out of ideas and can't find anyone else with the same problem.

Any one have any other suggestions?

The only option was to remove the processor and clean off the paste, which I did and surprise, surprise, Intel had boxed a Celeron G1840 2.8ghz in a i7 4790k 4Ghz box, everything about the box was perfect and sealed correctly, but the chip was not the correct model.

Sending back to Amazon for a refund/replacement. If only I'd read the details on the chip before installing the CPU and spending a day troubleshoting the problem.
