wrong graphic 8 pin pluged on my gtx 460

i just pluged converted psu power cable to 8 pin cable and pluged in my gtx 460 and cable start smoke very bad and melt down (2 red cable) on converted cable i shotdown the power . i just tested graphic card with other 6 pin but 2 holes on adapter emepty but not screen at all . it look like my card died ?!?!!? but stil fan woking and light on gpu board is works . i dont have psu that have 6+2 pin for test it i want to ask you what is gona happen if i have the right psu that have right pin it dos work with green 1030 before . the 300 w green was just test that will work or not but its gone this way,,,, what im gona do ? is it dead ? my graphic if broke is it fixable ?

If I read that right your PSU was a 300W if that's the case your PSU is dead. no way to tell on the card until you have a good PSU

99% certain it is broken, very broken. Not fixable. GTX460 on a 300W supply is a very very bad idea.

My read is that he used something that wasn't the 8pin pci-e connector into that socket. In which case it's dead, psu and card.

if it was just the psu that died then 50:50 for the GPU.

It's really difficult to read, not sure what the 1030 is.

Hi

Usually PCI-e 12V cables are black + yellow
So I would not expect red 5V wires on the correct adapter
Usually PCI-e 8 pin are for cards using more amps than 6 pin connector
300w atx psu probably not suitable

Only expert can examine gtx 460 and see if (visible) damage can be repaired

Does mother board have integrated graphics chip you can use until someone can test the gtx 460 for you

Looks like the OP tried to put a molex to 8 pin cable in the 460.
The 460 simply draws too much current; no way it'll work on a 300W unless it's from some company which hugely understates their PSU's.
The 460 itself requires 160W of power, that's 53% of the TOTAL wattage of the PSU.
You'll need a 500W.

The PSU and card both are zapped; sorry.
Also, PSU zapping could imply other components are gone too maybe. You should try examining your CPU and if looks fine then put in another motherboard and test.

the 300 psu is work < but i didnt find 6+2 power to test my gtx 460 graphic / i think the graphic still work not sure but i just remember that i did same mistake with 1030 w green i pluged the 8 pin in adapter but didnt work and then i put 6+2 pin cable it worked until my 1030 green broked and most fix i m waiting for that to test it with 6+2 pin on green 1030 ... most say that nothing smoked or meltdown on graphic boeard just the converted 8 pin ( 2 red cable) maybe the cable is broked or maybe i dont know any body have idea tell me plaese ??

and if any body say that why i wont test graphic // be cause i dont have any 500 w psu /// not even my friend / in rieper shop even they have the psu but stiil no 6+2 pin on it so what i do i buy an other psu for 100 $ thats not posible if my card broke then i most first buy graphic then power and in 3 day my green 1030 most be done with riper shop so im waiting
