Wrong timing with corsair

hi ,
i have installed 2 x corsair XMS2 EXTREME PERFORMANCE Pc2-6400 5-5-5-12 Ram on Gigabyte p965DQ6 (bios F9) but it detect it's timing as 5-5-5-18 !
what's going in ?!

You should be able to change those values in the Bios.

As Mondoman said, that's the settings that are in the SPD.

Why do they do this? To ensure that the system will boot at the default memory voltage of 1.8v. If you look a little closer and read Corsair's "fine print" I think you'll find that the 5-5-5-12 timings are only guaranteed to work when the memory voltage is set to 1.9v.

Frankly, I never saw the point of going from the 18 Tras to the 12. I don't know what the performance gain would be, but I'm guessing it's very small. So I just left the memory settings at the default values so I could run the memory at 1.8v. I'd rather run a tad cooler than a small tad faster.

i think mobo supports HT , but when i looked at PCmark it says HT = N/A

If I read your OP correctly you are using an Intel Core Duo E6400 with your DQ6, correct? The motherboard may support Hyper Threading (HT) but the Core Duo processors do not. So, yes, HT = N/A would be correct.

its prolly the safety timings so the system boots properly

my preference is to manually set most settings so you atleast know what its running at

Hmm... interesting. Thats why my supposed 1.9V ram works at 1.8V. I have this same memory, bought from newegg. One stick wouldn't run at 800Mhz no matter the timing. But while fooling around with memory, I noted both the 5-5-5-18 setting and the fact that it will run at 1.8v rather than the specified 1.9v.

To make my story short, rma'd the one stick to corsair, got it back, and now both are happily humming along with my E6300 at 3Ghz ( 430Mhz FSB/860 memory). I got all the overclock I wanted at a decent price ($170 for the 2x1GB set).
