Comcast just came out today to look at it and unsurprisingly did nothing to fix my router issues. I'm currently paying for 100mb/s download speed and can achieve that only directly connected to the modem or router. My wireless speeds are absolute trash...

(TAKEN FROM SPEEDTEST ON IPHONE... LAPTOP HAS SAME RESULTS)
This problem started to occur about a week or so ago... only now is it almost unbearable on all devices. Even after switching the router that was having problems to a spare Linksys e1200 and changing broadcast channels to 11 in the admin settings I'm still not getting anywhere. It is so weird how this came up out of the blue and all of a sudden happened. Please help! Thanks

Do you have any other wireless equipment in your house, or is there such equipment in the vicinity? Are you aware of any recent changes in this respect? For example, have you installed a cordless phone? Whatbhappens if your laptop is very close to the router?

It sounds to me as if your problem may be some interference or conflict from other wireless equiment. As you say that a direct connection works fine it's not surprising that the Comcast engineer could do nothing. He's really just concerned that your Internet connection works, which it does.

I understand completely that a newer AC router is going to get me better speeds but .40mbps???? .... I mean come on here that is atrocious and is like dial up speed. This didnt happen until like a week ago. Im testing wireless speeds in the same room as the router. Nothing in my house has changed so i dont believe anything surrounding the router is causing an interference. Theres got to be a way better explanation for this than just the router not being the newest shinny product on the market. The speeds would not be this bad if that were the case.

Even if the laptop is right next to the router my speeds are still under a half mb a sec.

You said that changing the router didn't solve the problem, and that the Internet connection itself is fine. That leaves very little other than a simultaneous failure of the wirless in both your phone and your laptop or some external cause.

Once you have eliminated the impossible, what remains - however improbable - must be the truth.

?

What problems in the settings could be causing this? what about external? Remember this didn't happen gradually it just happened and has stayed that way so im not sure what interference would be causing it in the house as nothing has changed.

Something happening suddenly could well be an external cause. Maybe the phone company activated a new cellphone mast near to you or a neighbour installed some new equipment. Unless you live in the middle of the desert it can be very difficult to know what has changed in the vicinity. You would surely know if you had changed some setting in the router (well, in both routers).

For starters I would try each wireless channel in turn to see if the problem persists.

I just went through all channels... no improvement. I agree mchenryb that an external cause could be the issue but now that i know all channels are showing no improvement of speeds over .40 mbps, where do i go from here?

Have you installed anything that uses a radio around your home? For example, baby monitors or security cameras? If you live in high density or multi family housing, any one of the neighbors or the property manager could have installed something that is interfering. If it is outside interference, it might just be easier to throw some money at the problem and get a 5 GHz access point.

Does your wireless router support usb 3.0? I know on some of the older ones they weren't shielded efficiently and murdered the 2.4Ghz band, since that's the same wavelength of usb 3.0 transfer

Also, any Ham operators nearby?
